Just some thoughts after sacha sauda incident of may13th ... even in 1978 the fauja singh incident happened on may 13 (correction April 13)...........

GURU : Teacher , leading us to “Gyan”

(this word again comes from Punjabi/Hindi word: “gur” i.e. technique , secret or special methodology . SO a GURU is someone who knows the “gur”. Therefore, the “Complete Guru” is one who can give “complete Gyan” , hence Guru Granth Sahib ( also called Nanak no. 11) )

The darkness of doubt is removed by the healing ointment of the Guru's spiritual wisdom.

Everyone in this world is in need of a someone who has a “gyan” or “gur” (technique) to live in a correct way.

Some people are in the search of small “gurs” (techniques ,answers) like “how do I leave my alcoholism etc.” They are accosted by these “So called Gurus” and told to not drink any longer and repeat a magic mantra which they give. They also give some generally socially accepted sermons etc (all of which they rip-off from Guru Granth Sahib).

Now the question is why don’t people come to Guru Granth sahib for such problems?

The answer is manifold:

1)We (with years of propaganda) have started believing in Guru Granth Sahib as a “Var-Data morrti” ( Boon giving Idol) …Whereas Guru Granth Sahib is actually “Gyan data Guru” ( Gyan giving Teacher) .All a lay gursikh knows is that we have to go to the gurdwara bow our head and all wishes are fulfilled , if not , then we can try another gurdwara or better still some sant/fake-baba’s dera. We all have lost the understanding that Guru Granth Sahib is there for guiding us . Unless this point is clear to us and unless we make an effort to make it clear to everyone these fraud shops will carry on. ( Infact these shops have been there since guru nanak’s time ! for example Siri chand opened his own Udasi dera. Prithi chand opened his own dera with govt support in Lahore. Ram Rai opened his own dera , again with govt support in Dehradoon ( fact dehra doon gets it name from “dera at doon”) .

saevuk sikh poojun sabh aavehi sabh gaavehi har har oothum baanee

All the Sikhs and servants come to worship; they sing the sublime Bani of the Lord, Har, Har.

gaaviaa suniaa thin kaa har thaae paavai jin sathigur kee aagiaa sath sath kar maanee
Their singing and listening is approved if & only if; they accept the Order of the True Guru as True, totally True. ||1||

2)These people have govt funds & support , so they have lots of publicity. They can get things done through the govt so even educated people go to them get their dirty work done. We cant do anything about it , but yes if we organize ourselves … If the nos. of “gyanwan” sangat increases , these false shops wont take 2days to vanish.

Deer, falcons and government officials are known to be trained and clever.

faadhee lugee jaath fehaaein agai naahee thaao

When the trap is set, they trap their own kind; hereafter they will find no place of rest.

He alone is learned and wise, and he alone is a scholar, who practices the Name.

First, the tree puts down its roots, and then it spreads out its shade above.

The kings are tigers, and their officials are dogs;

jaae jugaaein ibaithae suthae

they go out and awaken the sleeping people to harass them.

chaakur nehudhaa paaein ighaao

The public servants inflict wounds with their nails.

ruth pith kuthiho chatt jaahu

The dogs lick up the blood that is spilled.

jithai jeeaa hosee saar

where all beings will be judged.

nukukhuee vutukhuee laaeithubaar

will be disgraced Roam with cut noses - Those who have violated the people's trust; ||2||

3) Our own structure of authority has become defunct. Firstly, we all have forgotten that our true leader is Guru Granth Sahib. We have started believing that Our leader is the “Jathedar “ even “that s also ok” …but the issue is jhathedars have just become figure heads …Politicians hand pick “pujaris” as jathedars and Moreover the Jathedars have no written down ruls about tenure and Powers . they are al at the mercy of who owns SGPC…. Even this problem is solvable of we all in the sangat wake up. Get good people to represent us at smaller leves like our own gurdwara. …. That brings me to another point , guru nanak is not for the gurdwara , he is for the whole world. Lets widen our focus from the gurdwara to every aspect of life. Lets propagate Nanak Guru’s message to everyone everywhere…Then people will have no doubt about who is the true leader & Guru .

In a nut shell , all we can see these days is bigger Keertan programs , bigger Nagar keertans , bigger fund collections , bigger gurdwaras, biggar kar sevas etc .. But lesser & lesser knowledge from the Guru. So the only solution is Jumping into the Ocean of Guru Granth Sahib & then Beating the drum to tell everyone about the true guru ..like Makhan Shah Lubahna did once “Guru ladho re Guru Ladho Re”.

Basically is Supply & demand ! Demand for "Guru" is there , it isour mistake that we have kept Guru Nanak hidden behind "Rumalas"...that is why these duplicate "gurus" are looting the public.

I had thought about posting on these events, but I like what you wrote. The call to action is for sangat to counter these kinds of people at every level, starting in your own family and at the Gurdwara.

Veerji another interesting post you have made.It's good to know the where we have gone wrong. But I think that just thinking over that issues would not solve them. What is need of the hour is to educate people about Gurbani.Time has come when some action has to be taken on ground rather posting such messages. Here don't get me wrong and I don't want to say that these messages are not neccessary these are required but these messages need to be implemented on ground.
The only thing is how can be implement it on ground effectively that needs to be seen,that needs to be thought over.

I agree with you completely veerji .

Infact here at Bangalore the sangat has started a small effort to meet understand Gur Granth Sahib ji from page 1 onwards every Saturday (5pm) & Sunday(3pm) at the Ulsoor gurdwara .

Once we get a grasp of the vocabulary ,language , grammar & context of Usage then we individually can continue the 24/7 veechar in our own "minds". (swas swas bani Barmao ...sat suhan sada man chao.)

I think this a very small move , which we can grow & replicate wherever we go ..whoever we are with ...whatever may be the differences between us ...but with bani in the middle no scratch can come on us.

For the above we keep with us the Darpan By prof Sahib singh (but do not take as the final verdict, because "sahib mera neet nava" ..so for every context there is a new inspiration from the guru).

small small activities culminate into big results ..lets all just be aware of what is the right way of doing things...i.e. keeping the Guru's message as the leading light.

I think the most important reason of all these Dera's mushrooming in Punjab is- the CASTE factor. The bitterness that divides the landowning Jat Sikh community and the Mazhabi agricultural workers. Despite the Sikhism completely prohibits caste discrimination, insidious forms of exclusion and oppression continue to exist. Jat Gurdwaras are often closed to Dalits, and most villages have separate houses of worship run on caste lines. These fake Baba's exploit this and thus a new sect is born.

Few years back, I had an oppurtunity to visit Takhat Sri Damdamma Sahib and I was shocked to see all this with my eyes, there was a clear distinction marking Jat and Mazhabi Gurudwaras in very near vicinity.
